This is my first blog-post, and as such I think introductions are customary.
Hi guys, I’m Crystal, and I’m average. Now before you freak out, I’m not sitting here insulting myself or begging for compliments. But I’m dead serious! Hear me out. I wasn’t “born with it” - whatever that means. I am not naturally athletically inclined or talented. I’m not naturally brilliant. Now I have my talents and bents, for example - I’m pretty flexible and people tell me I can sing! But “born with it” is just not a word I’d use to describe my journey. If you were to ask my childhood gymnastics coaches, they would tell you I was one of the most uncoordinated little girls they had ever met. When I would run, I would set all of them uncontrollably laughing. I also wasn’t Miss A+ in college – more like miss “B” and do a little happy dance when I hit the “A” category. I can give a great speech, but practically shrivel up and die inside from anxiety beforehand. I am confident in a crisis but often doubt my abilities. I am hardcore into athletics and competitions but not at all naturally coordinated. The point is, I have had to fight for whatever abilities that I have now gained. Because no, most things haven't come naturally to me. In each area of accomplishment in my life once lay a lack of natural ability and the belief that I wasn't capable. But when my fear and doubt tell me I can’t do something; I look it in the face and say “Yes. I. can." – WATCH ME.”
In this blog I will share with you my adventures, marriage, competitions in CrossFit and Xterra, travels, things God is teaching me, and areas of personal struggle and growth. I also plan to provide fitness and nutrition tips, holistic health advice, encouragement, and products that I love. But most of all, I hope to encourage all the "average" girls that being average does NOT have to stop us from chasing excellence and achieving our dreams. I am sure as time goes on this blog will evolve and so will my content. So skies the limit! In the meantime, I’d love to hear what you guys would be interested in hearing. Some of us are not born with all the talent. Some of us are, for a lack of a better word, average. But just because we weren’t born with natural ability doesn’t mean we can’t ACTIVELY achieve GREATNESS in whatever we set our minds to.
This is my blog. This is my story. I’m average. But I’ll be damned if I let that stop me.
